Herp Walk

To avoid becoming despondent, the wise often seek the solitude of the forest, therefore I will be taking this lovely day (temps expected to reach the 70's) to undertake my annual vernal pool pilgrimage. Yeah, you get depressed when banksters aren't made to perp-walk, so lift your spirits with a herp walk.

Mud boots? Check
Oceans of Kansas Tylosaurus proriger T-shirt (gotta show those allegiances!)? Check
Water bottle? Check
Kick-ass camera? D'OH!!! Never did pick one up... I'll never be "Thunder" at this rate...

It just hit 70 degrees here, out of nowhere!

(Or perhaps, Wisconsin.)

Should bring out many more critters (some of which will be biting insects, unfortunately).

Canon G12: handy, very good. You can probably get one for around $400.

Thanks for the tip! How much is a kick-ass zoom lens to get my beloved, though extremely shy, belted kingfisher?

The Canon G12 does not take another lens, it has 5*1 with the built-in lens.

My best bird pictures are taken with a telephoto lens as you suggest, but now you're talking much bigger bucks.

Example: Canon 50D

Herp walk? Sounds like a meat wrapper or two might be in order. Hur hur hur.

We were out beating the bushes yesterday. It was too cold for our snaky friends.

I hiked up Cacapon Mountain. I used to this this hike to the top in under 20 minutes. I must have gotten old and fat in my few years in Ohio.

Anyways, there was a cool tan lizard with a turquoise belly (a skink, I'm guessing). So I'm hoping those pics came out nice.

You're just contemplative, so you amble in a more leisurely fashion.

Did it look like this?

Tomorrow's post- but they'll suck compared to Thunder's photos. Really must look into a good camera.

Wack-ass cameras do just fine, discounting zoominess.

Clumsy bastard's meat-hook hand hit "Enter" by accident.

Thought for a moment you were entering Cheever country.

With short stories being the topic, I figured I'd mention "Axolotl"- I seem to recall Smut Clyde making reference to this story, but my brain is as soft and cloudy as a salamander egg mass.
